Presentation of the DANOK OTEIZA community

The Jorge Oteiza Foundation Museum presents the new community DANOK OTEIZA on the anniversary of the artist’s birth

Coinciding with the anniversary of the artist’s birth, the Jorge Oteiza Foundation Museum will present on October 21st, 2025, DANOK OTEIZA, Friends of the Foundation: a community built around the figure and thought of Jorge Oteiza and his creative and cultural legacy. This community is conceived as a living organism that will complement the activities and initiatives developed by the Museum in Alzuza.

DANOK OTEIZA responds to Oteiza’s own understanding that art and creation are powerful tools for social and collective transformation, while also contributing to the fostering of a critical spirit and the construction of a shared imaginary.

DANOK OTEIZA seeks to serve as a reference for those individuals or entities who wish to share and identify with the creative, aesthetic, and cultural ideals of Jorge Oteiza, participating and interacting in a shared dynamic in which life and culture project themselves jointly into contemporary society. It is conceived as an open community, complementary to the activity of the Oteiza Museum, and will evolve in time and space according to the contributions of its members.

The presentation event, held at the Oteiza Museum in Alzuza, featured a full artistic program that included the screening of Oskar Alegría’s audiovisual Oteiza 14 apostolu, a performance by ZUK Performing Arts with their piece Quousque Tandem Abutere, an intervention by bertsolaris Saioa Alkaiza and Julio Soto, Oteiza’s poetry recited by Jara Calvo, the concert Eskua Askea by Oier Etxeberria and Garazi Navas, and the dance Apostoluen soka-dantza by Juan Antonio Urbeltz and Marian Arregi, performed by Argia Ikerfolk.

Among the first projects promoted within the community are the production of the audiovisual Oteiza 14 apostolu by Oskar Alegria; the graphic novel on Jorge Oteiza by Asisko Urmeneta (currently in development and planned for publication in 2026); and the new edition of the Oteiza Museum Guide, reissued thanks to the collaboration of CARDIVA.

The Jorge Oteiza Foundation Museum has received the collaboration and support of Artingenium Art Office in launching this project, thus reaffirming a shared commitment to art, reflection, and the dissemination of Oteiza’s creative legacy.

To become part of this community, a series of friend categories have been created, with names inspired by key concepts in Oteiza’s aesthetic imaginary:

  • CROMLECH: brings together the two entities promoting the project (Government of Navarre and Jorge Oteiza Foundation Museum).

  • GAUR (strategic members)

  • EMEN (patrons)

  • ORAIN (collaborators)

  • BAITA (partner entities)

  • HITZA (media)

  • ITZIAR (in homage to his wife, Itziar Carreño. For individual members). €30 per year.
